Fire engulfs mini-godown at Gogol

MARGAO: A major fire gutted a mini-godown at Gogol on Wednesday evening, destroying property worth around Rs 5-6 lakh. The incident occurred at around 6.30 pm shortly after the owner Alaric Pires had closed the shop after switching off the MCB. Dealing in chips (food items), the owner had received a fresh stock of chips worth Rs 6 lakh and it is feared that the entire consignment has been destroyed in the fire. “I had downed the shutters of the shop in the evening after switching of the MCB. Within minutes, I received a call that the godown has been engulfed in a fire. Immediately, the fire brigade was informed and we all rushed to the premise,” he said.

Alaric suspected that high voltage could be the probable reason behind the fire since a portion of the Borda side had no power supply at the time of the incident.
